ITC Garamond Specimen
booklet + poster.
The aim of this project was to re-market the fantastic ITC Garamond typeface to the design community.
The problem with International Typeface Corporation's (ITC) release of Garamond is that it is widely despised by the design community and type connoisseurs.
Many a type foundry has release their version of the 16th century Garamond typeface. ITC's is mainly criticised as being the least faithful to the original design by Claude Garamond.
To avoid hitting my head against a brick wall, I decided to make no shame of this poor typeface's differences. It's large x-height and striking ultra bold weights make for excellent display text. So I decided to compare and present it as an acquired taste alongside the French delicacy (Claude being French himself) of escargot.
